On Saturday (17/12), Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) with Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) held a signing ceremony and discussion on establishing the Faculty of Medicine at UMKT.

Prof. DrAchmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., The Vice Rector of Cooperation and International Affairs UMY in his speech fully supports the collaboration on establishing the Faculty of Medicine at UMKT. “UMY supports the effort for building the Faculty of Medicine for another Muhammadiyah University outside Java Islands, since some of the Muhammadiyah University there didn’t have Faculty of Medicine, except North Sumatra and South Sumatra. This year, UMY has a goal to realize the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine outside java islands, with a focus on equal distribution of doctors in Indonesia will not only in Java Islands but also in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, and so on.”

In addition, one of the steps that UMY has done in an effort that correlates with this goal is UMY had to change the new-student acceptance scheme with the collaboration of the local government so it will help the new Faculty of Medicine in another island to grow exponentially.

With A. M. Parikesit Hospital as the hospital partner to UMKT, they hope the Faculty of Medicine will grow exceptionally in East Kalimantan and could produce reputable doctors from UMKT.

Prof. Dr. H. Bambang Setiadji, the Rector of UMKT stated on his speech that UMKT is looking forward to the establishment of Faculty of Medicine in UMKT by the guidance from UMY. “UMKT effort is linear with the target on the establishment of Faculty of Medicine. Since UMY have the Faculty of Medicine with “Unggul” Accreditation, we seek UMY collaboration, assistance, and guidance for the faculty systems, may it be on the student-acceptance system, studying system, lecturer system, and the other management variables, so it can reach the people interested in medicine. We hope, this collaboration will be blessed by Allah as one of the efforts for growing Umah (Islam) and Muhammadiyah.”
