UPH and UMY Sign Landmark MoU to Forge Strategic Partnership and Advance Higher Education Initiatives

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) have entered into a significant partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 14, 2024. The agreement was formalized by Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Rector of UMY, and Dr. (Hon.) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., Rector of UPH.

This MoU sets the stage for extensive collaboration between the two institutions, focusing on the Tridharma of higher education, which encompasses education, research, and community service. The rectors of both universities emphasized the importance of this partnership in fostering academic excellence and innovation. Dr. (Hon.) Jonathan L. Parapak highlighted the exemplary role of Muhammadiyah, an influential Islamic organization, in advancing education and technology in Indonesia. He praised Muhammadiyah for its far-reaching contributions, particularly in the health sector, with facilities spread nationwide, including UMY’s health education system. During the meeting, both rectors firmly committed to reinforcing their collaborative efforts. They view the MoU as a crucial gateway to future cooperation, aiming to leverage each other’s strengths for mutual benefit.

One of the immediate initiatives under this MoU is establishing a dental faculty at UPH. UMY, renowned for its dentistry program, will support this effort. This partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing higher education in Indonesia, promising innovative educational programs and improved community services through collaborative endeavors.
