Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) with Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Indiana University and Intuitive Institute hosted the first fundraising management workshop in Indonesia named Certified Fund Raising Management (CFRM). From 5 to 16 December, all the participants will be trained by Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, JD, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Philanthropic Studies and Director of the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative.

To seek and strengthen the non-profit, and charitable sectors in the developing world, the training is designed for the participants to acquire fundamental knowledge of fundraising tools and techniques while developing their leadership and management skills.

The Head of Cooperation and International Affairs of UMY, Fitri Arofiati, S.Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D. opened the workshop by delivering a speech regarding the importance of philanthropy in Indonesia. During her interview, Fitri also stated that this agenda is important for the organization’s development, especially for those organizations that are still trying to raise funds from overseas. “This is also an exceptional thing since obtaining this certification normally requires a significant fee, but this time training is free and highly beneficial to participants in obtaining international certificates. We hope that in the future, the organization will be able to use their resource well to seek outside donations, particularly those from all over the world.”

Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, JD, Ph.D., the trainer of CFRM expressed his feelings about being the trainer of CFRM. “I’m so proud to be in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where we collaborated with UMY to hold a training to assist Indonesian non-profit organizations with CFRM. Every participant was so engaged, and the entire training was professionally organized; it’s one of the best training I’ve ever had, and I’m so grateful for this wonderful experience. I truly believe that if non-profit organizations adopted data-driven and research-driven fundraising, we would be able to raise more funds and be more strategic; because it is not about the amount of money, but the impact that we give. I am certain that this will be an important milestone for Indonesia’s non-profit sector.”

The 10 days workshop was attended by various organizations and higher education institutions such as Muhammadiyah Universities, BAZNAS RI, Lazismu, Dompet Dhuafa, and many other non-profit organizations.

Dr. Ir. H. M. Nadratuzzaman Hosen, Board of BAZNAS RI appreciates the training held as it helps BAZNAS to grow more as an Amil Zakat organization “BAZNAS sent 7 delegates, including 3 commissioners, 1 deputy, and 3 directors, emphasizing that we value this training. Because we, as Amil Zakat organizations, can no longer function on assumptions and must work with complete knowledge. We also believe that we are still lacking in several areas. Thus, after this training is completed, we will make improvements to our organization. Last but not least, we expect that this training will continue to a more specialized focus.”
