UMY held MoU Signing and Public Lecture with Prakerja on Facing the 5.0 Society

Individuals in modern societies are obliged to become people with many talents, and competition between them grows as the number of fresh graduates increases while the number of job vacancies remains restricted. Thus, A training or workshop will undoubtedly assist them in gaining the necessary skills to compete with others.

Prakerja, which was introduced in 2020, is a platform established by the Indonesian government with the goal of teaching young graduates a skill before they proceed to professional employment. It is one of the contributions made by the Indonesian government to improve the quality of human resources while also reducing unemployment.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and Manajemen Pelaksana Program Kartu Prakerja partnered on conducting a Public Lecture under the theme “The Young Generation Challenges in Tackling the 5.0 Society Era.” on February 3. Furthermore, before the public lecture begins, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on improving the quality of new graduates through training and workshops

The Rector of UMY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP., IPM, ASEAN Eng., made the opening speech and underlined the importance of social skills. “Aside from high academic accomplishments, a student should also have excellent social skills. Having a strong social competence will benefit someone’s future profession.”

Gunawan also stated that high social skills and social intelligence will decide one’s abilities. Although intellectual ability is crucial, the social ability is far more vital.

On the other hand, Denni Puspa Purbasari, Executive Director of Manajemen Pelaksana Program Kartu Prakerja, asked humbly in her speech to the rector and lecturers of UMY to assist Prakerja in becoming an assessor. “We, Prakerja, called for support from the lectures of UMY to be a member of the assessor team that would examine the institution that offers training, before they enter the ecosystem of Prakerja.

Denni also mentioned that Prakerja launched in 2020 to address the three primary reasons why individuals typically apply for jobs with no personal skills, which include a lack of money, a lack of time, and a lack of direction on what training to pursue.

The public lecture was held both offline and online. More than 200 UMY students and recent graduates attended and expressed their interest in the public lecture by asking the speaker a variety of questions. The program also distributes over 30.000 vouchers for the online training from various training institutes such as Bebas Jam Kerja, Yureka, and LPK GeTi.
