In line with the objectives of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)’s internationalization, collaborating with educational institutions abroad is one of the initiatives to expand the networks to a global scale and create an international environment. This time, UMY and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP) join hands on improving academics in various fields of education.

On Thursday (20/10), UMY and UNIMAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the AR Fachruddin A Building. Attended by the board and deans from both universities, the ceremony was done via an online conference platform.

Vice-Chancellor UNIMAP Lt. Kol. Prof. Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli in his remarks said that this MoU signing event will broaden the opportunities and deepen their connection since UMY and UNIMAP have collaborated before. “Education institutions outside of Malaysia are welcome to collaborate with UNIMAP. I sincerely hope that this collaboration will expand to other areas of education. Moreover, it is hoped that the MoU signed today will be beneficial for everyone.”

Even without being present in person, the MoU was signed successfully by the Rector of UMY in Indonesia and the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAP in Malaysia.

On the other hand, the rector of UMY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto M.P., IPM, believes that this collaboration has the potential to grow and provide value as well as beneficial to both parties. This may also be a means by which UNIMAP works with other Muhammadiyah universities in Indonesia. “Later on, this relationship will be able to significantly improve the educational system, raise academic standards, and benefit both students and professors at both universities in general.”
