Human rights are the fundamental rights and liberties that every person in the world has from born to death. They are applicable regardless of your origins, beliefs, or lifestyle choices. Following that, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (Komnas HAM RI) cooperate on human rights where the signing ceremony took place at AR Fachruddin A Building UMY on Friday (16/9).

Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., IPM. as the Vice Rector of Academic Affairs for UMY emphasized that this cooperation could lead to several activities such as courses, internships, and joint research to increase understanding of human rights and implementation in several sectors. “As a result, the benefits of this cooperation could not only be felt by UMY and Komnas HAM RI but the society as well.”

Moreover, Drs. Amiruddin, M.Si, Vice Chairperson of External of Komnas HAM RI, stated that this cooperation can lead to two outcomes. “First is there will be talk show or joint research on human rights. The second question is how Komnas HAM RI and UMY could raise awareness about the importance of human rights.”

The cooperation between UMY and Komnas HAM RI hoped in bringing awareness and a deep understanding of human rights in educational institutions which could then be applied to society as a whole.
