Many people desire to study at the world’s finest universities. To assist more Indonesian students in achieving this goal, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia established the IISMA (Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards), a prestigious program that allows students to study at the best universities in the world.

Of course, obtaining this experience is not a simple task. Students at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta must prepare for a rigorous selection process to be accepted into this program. To that aim, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta’s Office of International Affairs launched a program to help students prepare for the upcoming IISMA selection.

The IISMA CAMP 2022 program provided 45 participants who passed the administrative selection from International Relations Office UMY, with material from several trustworthy speakers as well as the previous batch of IISMA recipients. Participants were given Achievement Motivation Training material as the opening material, which was delivered by Prof. Sukamta, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

At the same time, the IISMA CAMP 2022 event will be officially opened. On this day, Sukamta informed the participants that to be successful in this case, four main principles must be followed. “To be successful in life, we need four principles to guide us”.

First, we look to the future as a reference point for achieving our objectives. Second, avoid focusing on those who are far superior to you. However, it is preferable to concentrate on transformation and self-improvement. Third, use the past as a learning experience as well as a source of self-reflection to make better decisions in the future. Finally, future-oriented thinking must be a key emphasis.” Sukamta said at the end of the AMT session.

The IISMA Camp then welcomed the IISMA Sub-Pokja Program Coordinator, Andi Rahadiyan, to give a comprehensive overview of the program. Andi highlighted in his presentation that this curriculum is capable of preparing students to become adaptive persons.

“With the advancement of technology and science, it is hoped that you will be able to become people with an adaptive mindset and talents in the future through this curriculum.” As a result, to learn new viewpoints, this program necessitates inter programs.” According to Andi Rahadiyan.

IISMA Camp also invited one of the Australian Awardee Scholarship awardees, Mohammad Hazyar Arumbinang, to the next session to prepare students for writing Motivation Letters. During this session, the man known as Binang highlighted that creating a strong motivation letter requires time for preparation as well as proofreading from those who have expertise in writing motivation letters.

“It takes time to write a proper motivation letter.” As a result, it is advised that you write as soon as possible. Furthermore, you must conduct study on yourself so that the motivation letter you present will more clearly convey your aims and contributions to the program.” Binang, who will travel to Melbourne to further his education, stated

As part of the IISMA Camp’s closing agenda, attendees were privileged to an interview session led by Yordan Gunawan, the Head of the International Relations Office UMY. Yordan provided advice on how to deal with the IISMA interview process at this session. According to him, the most crucial aspect of an interview is a candidate’s ability to describe oneself briefly, concisely, and clearly, as well as how they will contribute if admitted into the IISMA program.

“When conducting interviews, you must be explicit about your aims for entering the IISMA program, as we are aware that you are not a native English speaker.” We should, however, be explicit in communicating our aims and goals to the interviewer, and therefore we must, of course, be attentive and vigilant in answering their questions.” Yordan stated during the last session.
