Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Adaro Energy Indonesia Join Forces to Empower Afghan Youth

On December 11, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held a welcoming ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all the scholarship awardees from Afghanistan at the AR Fachruddin A Building. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Adaro Energy Indonesia are collaborating to establish the scholarship as an act of corporate social responsibility and to broaden the educational opportunities of the Afghan people.

Faris Al-Fadhat, Ph.D. as the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and AIK UMY thanking The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Adaro Energy Indonesia for initiating and sponsoring the scholarship, “I would like to say much gratitude for the contribution for providing scholarships to our new students from Afghanistan. I hope that this scholarship will not only assist you in your academic endeavors, but will also open up many other chances and help you learn more about Indonesian culture.”

In addition to that, present were the Vice-Treasurer Prof. Mahmud Sholihin, Ph.D., Ak., CA., CPA., Muhammadiyah Higher Education Institution Council, the Acting Director of the Directorate of South and Central Asian Affairs Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Gatot H. Gunawan, the Commissioner of Adaro Energy Indonesia Mohammad Effendi, and President Director of the Indonesian Agency for International Development, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Tomarbulang Lumbantobing.

All the Afghanistan students will pursue a Master’s degree at UMY, majoring in various academic departments such as Management, Hospital Management, and International Relations. Additionally, each student will be enrolled in a Bahasa Indonesia study class to improve their comprehension and academic performance.

It is hoped that this scholarship will provide them with more possibilities and empower them with the necessary skills to fulfill their leadership roles within their native country’s representative city.
