Internationalization is one of the major bases for growing the presence of a university in the global arena. This is very important in attracting foreign students to study at UMY. The quality of higher education can be encouraged to be better through the efforts of internationalization carried out as a whole. That is why internationalization is an important element in the formation of universities for the benefit of the globalized world.

On Tuesday, 27 February 2020,  Dr. Hans Gerd Reiter visited the IRO of UMY to discuss internationalization. Dr. Hans was welcomed as Head of the UMY International Affairs Office by Jordan Gunawan. During the discussion, Dr. Hans received guidance on the internationalization of UMY, such as the UMY website, which still speaks Indonesian and does not view internationalization directly. In addition, he also made suggestions related to PGH that would be much better if he gave a breakfast room to make it easier for the guests to talk at the breakfast place.
