Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has launched an exciting new initiative by partnering with Permata Bank Syariah and Dompet Dhuafa to empower students through entrepreneurship and practical business experience. The tripartite agreement, unveiled during a key event held on the UMY campus, will see the continuation and expansion of the “Kantin Kontainer” program, a business incubation project that has been running since 2016. The collaboration marks an important step in combining educational development with real-world business opportunities for students.

The “Kantin Kontainer” initiative is designed to cultivate entrepreneurship among UMY students by allowing them to manage a food service container as part of their academic journey. This program, funded by Permata Bank Syariah, has proven successful in Central Java, and the new container, which will become the ninth in the series, will allow UMY students to gain hands-on experience in running a business. The project is not only an entrepreneurial training ground but also a scholarship program, giving students the opportunity to work and earn while pursuing their degrees.

Managed by UMY’s Business Incubation Center, the container will offer students a practical and supportive environment to develop essential business skills. Given the long-term nature of the project, the site for the new container will be thoroughly evaluated, with UMY’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., overseeing the review of the location to ensure it aligns with the university’s strategic goals. This collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa and Permata Bank Syariah reflects UMY’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts, preparing them for the challenges of the global business landscape.

While the partnership is not yet formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the event marks an important first step toward a deeper and more impactful collaboration in the future. This initiative is expected to open new doors for students, providing access to a broader range of career-building opportunities. According to Ibu Ana Rahmawati, Director of Economic Empowerment at Dompet Dhuafa, such partnerships are integral to achieving sustainable economic development and creating lasting change for communities across Indonesia.
