UMY Hosts International Iftar & Welcome Gathering for Global Students Encouraging Academic Excellence and Student Welfare

Yogyakarta, March 8, 2025 — In a vibrant and meaningful gathering, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) celebrated the International Iftar and Welcome Gathering on March 8, 2025, at the Postgraduate Amphitheater, 4th Floor, located at the university’s main campus. The event, which was exclusively held for UMY international students, fostered a sense of community and solidarity among the diverse student body.

Idham Badruzaman, Ph.D., as Head of International Relations Office of Office of Cooperation and International Affairs, opened the event with a heartfelt speech on the significance of “Momen Silaturahmi,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong connections and building friendships across cultural divides. He encouraged students to utilize this moment to strengthen both academic and personal relationships, which would ultimately contribute to their success at UMY.

The gathering also served as an essential platform for socialization and guidance regarding student welfare, particularly for international students benefiting from the UMY scholarship program. Dr. Siti Nur Aisyah, S.P., Head of the Division of Business Incubation and Startup Division, presented a detailed socialization of the facilities and services available to scholarship recipients. She highlighted crucial resources that could help international students sustain and excel in their academic journeys.

A critical point raised by Dr. Aisyah was the importance of international students maintaining their academic performance to retain their scholarships. She encouraged students to remain dedicated to their studies and emphasized the role of UMY’s support system in helping them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Additionally, Dr. Aisyah outlined the need for students to consider enrolling in insurance programs as a measure of safeguarding their well-being during their studies in Indonesia. “We encourage our students to take proactive steps to secure their future, and one way to do this is by signing up for insurance coverage,” she noted, stressing that such policies are vital in navigating unforeseen circumstances that could affect students’ health and safety.
