UMY Expands Global Footprint Through Major International Partnerships and Student Exchange Programs
YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA – In a bold move to strengthen its global presence and provide students with unparalleled academic and cultural experiences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has significantly expanded its international partnerships. Led by the Office of Cooperation and International Affairs, this initiative is transforming UMY into a hub for global academic collaboration, sending students abroad to top institutions across Asia, Europe, and beyond. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, UMY is seizing the opportunity to equip its students with the skills and global perspective needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Through strategic partnerships with institutions like Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU), Asia University, Bukhara University of Innovation, and others, UMY is offering students the chance to study at some of the world’s leading universities.
Students from Malaysia’s Universiti Malaya to Thailand’s Mahasarakham University are joining UMY in this bold cross-cultural academic journey. “Education is more than just academics; it’s about preparing students to thrive on the world stage,” said Dr. Idham Badruzaman, Ph.D., a leading academic at UMY. “This is a unique opportunity for UMY students not only to gain advanced academic knowledge but also to represent Indonesia, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and academic excellence of our nation.” The exchange programs span a wide range of disciplines, including law, political science, business, and technology. Partner institutions such as Sun Moon University, Universidad de Granada (UGR), and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak provide students with exposure to diverse teaching methods, international research opportunities, and an expanded global network.

These collaborations are not limited to academics; they also foster innovation. Students collaborate with international peers on research projects that push the boundaries of science, technology, and social issues, paving the way for future breakthroughs. The impact of these programs extends far beyond the classroom, nurturing global citizens capable of navigating diverse professional environments. With over 78 UMY students participating in exchanges across multiple countries, the initiative’s scope is vast—and growing. Whether at the International Islamic University Malaysia or Thailand’s Kasetsart University, UMY continues to forge new partnerships and deepen existing ones, ensuring its prominence in the global educational arena. International partnerships are central to UMY’s mission, advancing not only academic growth but also stronger diplomatic and cultural ties. Through these programs, UMY fosters mutual understanding and respect among nations while preparing the next generation of global leaders.
