UMY and UiTM Forge Agreement to Advance Global Research Collaboration

YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia — In a bid to strengthen ties and foster groundbreaking international research, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) signed a landmark Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The signing ceremony, held virtually via Google Meet, took place at UMY’s Research and Innovation Center, underscoring the universities’ commitment to global academic partnerships.

The event saw the participation of key academic leaders, including UMY’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., ASEAN., Eng., Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, S.IP., M.Si., Head of UMY’s Research and Innovation Institute, and Dr. Yessi Jusman, S.T., M.Sc., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Academic Affairs. Joining them were several distinguished guests and stakeholders.

UiTM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ahmad Rashidy Razali, kicked off the proceedings with remarks on the critical importance of fostering international research collaboration, particularly in the field of healthcare. “Collaborative efforts like these are vital in addressing global challenges and advancing academic excellence,” he noted, lauding the partnership as a catalyst for future innovation.

UMY’s Rector, Prof. Gunawan Budiyanto, echoed these sentiments, expressing his gratitude for UiTM’s support, particularly in funding joint research initiatives. “We deeply appreciate UiTM’s commitment to this partnership through collaborative research funding. This agreement opens the door to broader opportunities for research collaboration across various disciplines and with diverse partners,” he said.

The agreement sets forth the terms and conditions for fostering cross-border research collaborations, with both institutions pledging to provide matching grants to further support these efforts. Through this initiative, UMY and UiTM aim to drive innovation and expand the horizons of academic research on the global stage.
