International Student Mobility Program Discussion held by UMY to Encouraged Study Abroad

Info Session on Student Exchange and IISMA Co-Funding Program was conducted on Thursday (15/6) at the AR Fachruddin A Building of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). Two special guests, Gunawan Triyadi and Aulia Hakim Handy, were also present to discuss their student exchange experiences.

The Student Mobility Team of the Office of Cooperation and International Affairs (OCIA) UMY explained the student exchange and IISMA Co-Funding program. The student exchange program is a regular program open during the spring and fall semesters. In the meantime, the IISMA Co-Funding Program was initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology using a government-student financing scheme.

Gunawan Triyadi from International Program of Law and Shari (IPOLS) UMY shared his story during his study in Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Gunawan highlighted that students must be brave and make friends while studying abroad. “We cannot wait for people to approach you first, so we must approach them. Thankfully, everyone around me was all nice.”

However, Maejo University returnee Aulia Hakim Handy from the International Program of Management and Business (IMaBS) UMY stated that communication is possible despite the fact that we do not speak their language. “Since the majority of the people there do not speak English well, I used a translation application to communicate and it worked out well.”

Over 100 students participated from different departments and various questions were asked by participants that showed their enthusiasm towards this agenda. This information session is hoped encourage more students to study abroad, gain detailed information, and improve their preparation before they apply for student exchange program.
