Empowering Futures Through Global Partnerships as UMY and BUI Forge Collaborations at the Indonesia-Uzbekistan Higher Education Expo
Bukhara, Uzbekistan – The Bukhara University of Innovation hosted the “Indonesia-Uzbekistan Higher Education Expo and Scholarship Fair,” showcasing a variety of higher education institutions from Indonesia, particularly those associated with Muhammadiyah, alongside their counterparts from Uzbekistan. The event, organized in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), and Universitas Muhammadiyah Sinjai (UMSi), attracted over 500 visitors eager to learn about academic programs, scholarships, and international collaboration opportunities.
Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Roziyeva Dilnoz Isomjonovna, Rector of Bukhara University of Education; Achmad Muhari, Education Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Tashkent; and Prof. Dr. Khamidov Obidjon Khafizovich, Rector of Bukhara State University. The fair also featured representatives from various educational authorities, emphasizing the significance of this collaborative initiative.

A key event highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMY, Bukhara University of Innovation, and Millat Umidi University. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in research, student exchanges, and the development of human resources between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.
The expo served as a platform for introducing exceptional educational programs and an opportunity for students and academics to explore possibilities for joint research and student exchanges. Supported by the Indonesian Embassy, the event aims to enhance academic ties, improve the quality of higher education, and foster innovation across various fields.

The collaboration between UMY and the Bukhara University of Innovation reflects a broader commitment to expanding international partnerships. Discussions are underway to establish a Faculty of Medicine at Bukhara Innovation University. UMY is poised to play a vital role in this initiative by leveraging its accredited Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences..
The Indonesian Embassy in Tashkent expressed optimism about the expo’s potential to enhance university collaboration and foster broader bilateral relations between Indonesia and Uzbekistan. “The primary goal of this fair is to inform Uzbek students interested in studying abroad. With full support from the Embassy, we aim to strengthen academic ties and build a competent international network,” Idham noted.
The success of the Indonesia-Uzbekistan Higher Education Expo and Scholarship Fair marks a significant step in advancing educational collaboration and cultural exchange between the two nations, setting the stage for future partnerships that promise mutual benefits and growth.
