Indonesia Education Fair 2024 Bridging Education Between Indonesia and Thailand

Yala, Thailand – The Indonesia Education Fair 2024, a landmark educational initiative, unfolded on December 11-12th, 2024, at the Main Auditorium of Yala Rajabhat University. This event, spearheaded by the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkla, Southern Thailand, and hosted by Yala Rajabhat University, proved to be a resounding success.

Representatives from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), including Fitri Arofiati, S.Kep., Ns., M.A.N., Ph.D., Head of the International and Cooperation Office; Dr. Dyah Pikanthi Diwanti, S.E., M.M., Head of Promotion at the Admissions Bureau; Diah Setyawati Dewanti, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business; Dr. Senja Yustitia, S.Sos., M.Si., a lecturer at the Master’s Program in Media and Communication; and Adinda Daffa Aprilian, S.IP., Media and Publicity Staff, were present to showcase the university’s offerings to eager Thai students. The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Mr. Suargana Pringganu, Head of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkla; Mr. Piyasiri Wattawarangkul, Deputy Secretary General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre; Mr. Pongsak Yingchoncharoen, Mayor of Yala Province; Lt. Gen. Mr. Terdsak Damkham, President of the Advisory Board of the Thai-Indonesian Alumni Association; and Mr. Ampon Pongsuwan, Governor of Yala Province.

The fair attracted 32 Indonesian universities, including institutions from the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah networks. More than 50 to 80 secondary schools in Thailand, with over 2,000 students, participated in the event, making it a significant educational gathering. Mr. Suargana Pringganu opened the event with a heartfelt speech, thanking the universities for their participation and expressing hope for further academic collaborations between Indonesia and Thailand. During the fair, each university had the opportunity to present its programs, with each presentation lasting up to 15 minutes. Fitri Arofiati, representing UMY, highlighted numerous scholarship opportunities, including the Tahfiz Scholarship, aimed at students who have memorized the Quran, showcasing UMY’s commitment to providing diverse educational pathways.

Alongside the fair, a roadshow promoting educational opportunities was held at three schools in Satun: Darool Ulum School, Muslim Seksa School, and Muslim Satun Wittaya School. The enthusiasm of the Thai students, who eagerly absorbed the information shared, demonstrated the growing interest in Indonesian higher education and the potential for future academic exchanges between the two countries. The successful Indonesia Education Fair 2024 and the roadshow further solidify the strong educational ties between Indonesia and Thailand, offering valuable opportunities for students on both sides.
