The Fisipol Awards 2024 were successfully held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. With the theme “Inclusivity in Valuing Inspiration by Celebrating Achievement,” the event featured an awarding ceremony combined with artistic and cultural performances from various Indonesian cultures. The participation of international students and performances by students with disabilities were highlights of this annual event organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).

The event featured nine nomination categories. For individual achievements, awards were given for the most outstanding student, best entrepreneur, most productive writer, and top international students. In the institutional category, awards included the most productive internal organization, most popular event, and most active social media. Additionally, special nominations were made for film, including the most inspirational film story and the most innovative sound design and production.

Dr. Takdir Ali Mukti, S.Sos., M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UMY, praised the event. He noted that it successfully embodied the principle of inclusivity.

“The main principle in our lives, inclusiveness, has been well-developed by the organizing committee tonight. Recognizing student achievements through various nominations, along with artistic and cultural performances, makes this event meaningful for our diverse social life. Everyone deserves happiness and aspirations, and tonight, at this event, everyone has the right to be happy,” said Dr. Takdir in his speech.

The inclusion of international students and students with disabilities at the Fisipol Awards 2024 marked an improvement from previous years. Surya Razzaq, the event’s conceptor, highlighted the participation of these groups as a key factor in the event’s success.

“In addition to the artistic and cultural performances presented as a theater drama, there was an amazing performance by Ase, a student with special needs. Ase captivated over 300 attendees with her beautiful voice and nimble piano playing,” said Surya.

There was also a special nomination for international students, which Surya noted was necessary due to the minimal involvement and recognition of international students at UMY in previous events.

The Fisipol Awards is an annual event initiated by the Academic Development and Achievement Division of the Student Executive Board (BEM) FISIPOL UMY. Since its inception in 2021, the event aims to celebrate the achievements of FISIPOL UMY students, both individually and institutionally. This awarding event is expected to inspire FISIPOL UMY students by showcasing potential role models for the nation’s advancement.
