Building Bridges: UMY and GuangXi Medical University Strengthen Academic Bonds with MoU

Yogyakarta, August 10, 2024 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and GuangXi Medical University (GXMU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration. The signing ceremony took place on Saturday in the AR. Fachruddin A Commission Meeting Room on the fifth floor of UMY’s campus, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between the two institutions.

Prominent representatives from both universities attended the event. The GXMU delegation was led by Prof. Zeng Zhiyu, President of GXMU, and included high-ranking officials such as Mr. Li Lang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of The First Affiliated Hospital; Ms. Tao Renchuan, Vice Dean of the Hospital of Stomatology; Ms. He Yuanyuan, Vice Dean of the Foreign Languages School; Mr. Sun Xuyong, Vice Dean of The Second Affiliated Hospital; and Mr. Peng Tao, Director of the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital. Representing UMY were Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Rector of UMY; Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., Vice Rector for Cooperation and International Affairs; Fitri Arofiati, S.Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D., Director of the Office of Cooperation and International Affairs; along with other key university officials.

The ceremony began with opening remarks from Prof. Gunawan Budiyanto, who highlighted the significance of this second MoU between GXMU and UMY. He emphasized UMY’s role as the first university established by Muhammadiyah, a prominent Islamic social organization in Indonesia, and noted UMY’s ongoing collaborations with other Chinese universities, notably Sias University. Prof. Gunawan expressed optimism about the expanded scope of the MoU, stating, “Today, after signing this MoU, we hope to broaden our collaboration across various academic activities such as student exchange, joint research, and visiting professorships.”

Prof. Achmad Nurmandi also addressed the gathering, warmly welcoming the GXMU delegation and expressing hope that the partnership would create more opportunities for students and faculty members to engage in collaborative efforts.

In his remarks, Prof. Zeng Zhiyu expressed his pleasure at visiting UMY and extended a personal invitation to the UMY rector to attend GXMU’s upcoming anniversary celebrations.

The extension of the MoU between GXMU and UMY is expected to deepen the relationship between the two universities, paving the way for increased academic and research collaborations in the years to come.
