Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held the Induction Program which designed for 23 international students to have them settle into university life, given the opportunity to explore the culture of Indonesia and make new friends from other countries. This program was held for international students studying in UMY at Dolandeso, Kulon Progo, D.I. Yogyakarta on Saturday (20/4). These international students come from five different countries, namely China, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Turkmenistan.

Opened by Rector of UMY, Dr. Ir Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P, in his opening speech said that the induction is very important to international student, since students in many cases are living away from their homes and families, more often than not for the first time. For many international students, the situation is of course multiplied. Not only they have to come to terms with living away from home, but so far removed from home in a strange country.

The program was officially opened by Rector Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto, attended also by Director of Office of International Affairs, Yordan Gunawan and Director of Administration of Cooperation and Partnership, dr. Farindira Vesti Rahmasari.

“They will need to contend with a new language, a very different culture from their own, and deal with people from varied cultural backgrounds”, said Gunawan.

The program was started by Immigration Team who explained about New Regulation of Visa Procedure for Foreign Students in Indonesia and continued with some outbound games followed by all participants. (mmi, ydg)
