Turkish Government and Muhammadiyah Strengthen Educational Relations

Monday, (25/11). As Indonesia’s Biggest Modern Islamic Movement, Muhammadiyah seeks to expand and improve its cooperation with local and international parties. One of their targets is the Turkish Government.

Following the above, the Turkish Government, specifically the education sector, the Turkish Presidential Education and Training Policy Agency, offers partnerships in education development, particularly for educational institutions of Muhammadiyah.

This was marked by the signing of MoU between Muhammadiyah Universities and Turkish Universities, namely; Ankara University, Eciyes University, Middle East Technical University (METU) University and Bilkent University. The event was facilitated by Yok, an autonomous institution responsible for the planning, coordination and governance of higher education system in Turkey following the Turkish Constitution and the Higher Education Laws.

Among those who signed the MoU with Turkish educational institutions are, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), UM Prof. Dr. HAMKA, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), and several Higher Education Institutions which are specially owned by Muhammadiyah.

Prof. Rahmi Turan, President of T.C Yuksekogretim Kurulu Baskalangi and also as a specialized ministry agency under President Erdogan, who is in charge of the education sector, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for this cooperation. Turkey is confident in its bid to partner with at least 127 highly reputable Turkish universities in terms of scholarship support. (hnl)
