Strengthening Collaboration in Research and Education; UMY Joined to The 5th Japan-Indonesia Rectors’ Conference

Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto M.P. attended the 5th Indonesia-Japan Rectors’ Conference in Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima held by Hiroshima University from 9 to 11 October 2019.

Located in the Center of Hiroshima, the annual event joined by 69 Universities, consists of 32 Japanese Universities and 37 Universities from Indonesia.

The summit themed “Collaboration in Research and Education for Sustainable and Peaceful Society” to discuss research and education collaboration, as well as to promote exchange between universities in Japan and Indonesia.

At the conference, Rector of Hiroshima University Mitsuo Ochi stated that the meeting aimed to strengthen the cooperation among Universities in Japan and Indonesia, especially in the area of research development and education. Besides, Mitsuo emphasized the role of youth in arranging the future of the world must be prepared well by both countries.

The conference divided into three group sessions. Group one discussed Collaboration on Education for Sustainable Development, which represented by Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto M.P.

Furthermore, Executive Director of Cooperation and International Affairs, Eko Priyo Purnomo M.Si., M.Res., Ph.D., presented Research Collaboration on Sustainable Development. While, Director of Office of International Affairs, Yordan Gunawan presented UMY Experience on doing the Triple Helix Collaboration on Sustainable Development.

A discussion continued the activities with some Japanese Universities on strengthening or making cooperation. For this, Gunawan Budiyanto had meetings with Japanese University Presidents; Tottori University, Tokushima University, Okayama University, and Sophia University. (hnl)
