In upgrading the Student and Staff Exchange with South Korea, UMY started a collaboration with Dong-A University

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is one of the prestigious universities in Yogyakarta in the search for a wide-ranging path for their students to have more extensive academic record opportunities. Enlisting students to study abroad is one of the lists of UMY’s priorities for taking a further step in the field of education. Recently, UMY released an agreement (MoA) after had an MoU last year with Dong-A University on 12 December 2019 at Rector’s Hall.

The agenda attended by Prof. Suk Jung Han (President of Dong-A University), Prof. Yeong Hyeon Hwang (Dean, Office of International Affairs), Prof. Kyuhong Hwang (Dean, Office of Public Relations), Prof. Dae Sik Je (Professor, Foundation for Industry Academy Cooperation) and Mr. Sung Tae Kim (Senior Manager, Office of International Affairs) from Dong-A University. The whole meeting addressed a need to improve educational practices such as student and staff mobility and research collaboration.

Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM as the Rector of UMY welcomed this initiation warmly. “Hopefully, this further academic partnership will bring a mutual benefit to both universities. We don’t need to have a massive program, but we need to implement it in research collaboration or at least next year student exchange program,” said him in the middle of the discussion.

“After I ended my trip to some of the ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, I am drawn to consider more Muslim communities coming to Dong-A. We also went to UPI, UMS UNDIP, to begin a partnership, and we’re pleased to be invited to UMY so. I hope that this agreement will put our university into comprehensive cooperation furthermore.” said Prof Suk Jung Han as the President of Dong-A University.

Dong-A University is a private university in South Korea which has three campuses at Seunghak, Gudeok, and Bumin. This university offers more opportunity for Muslim students to study there. It proved that the university currently provides prayer room, halal food, and halal cultural center for international Muslim students (Lia).
