In Improving Relations between Indonesia and Australia, UMY held a Public Lecture of Indonesia Ambassador for Canberra

To support the improvement of students and lecturers’ abilities, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) received an honorary visit from Indonesia Ambassador for Canberra. The visit aimed to give a public lecture from Drs. Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo which held on Thursday (9/26) at the K.H Ibrahim Building UMY.

The welcoming remark was represented by Yordan Gunawan as a Director of Office of International Affairs. Through this event, he hoped that students would make the best opportunity to realize the importance of the relationship between Indonesia dan Australia directly through the expert.

The ambassador lecture was themed “Strategies and Opportunities for Cooperation between Indonesia and Australia Especially in Improving the Quality of Human Resources for the Benefit of the Ummah” which attended by International Relations Students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.

Furthermore, Yohanes explained that Indonesia and Australia have one program in common, namely the Australia-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Efforts to increase economic and development cooperation, connecting people, security, maritime cooperation as well as increasing prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region have become collaborative programs between Indonesia and Australia.

Besides, Yohanes also invited UMY students to be an intern at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra. “The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra opens up the opportunity for Muhammadiyah students to have the internship at the Indonesian Embassy in Australia, and I hope you take advantage of this opportunity,” Yohanes said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nur Azizah, M.Sc as a Chair of the International Relation Department UMY said that there is a need for a follow-up invitation for soft skills program. (hnl)
